A little bit about me

I am a Learning Technologist, E-Learning Consultant and ICT advisor based in Myddle, a village on the outskirts of Shrewsbury in Shropshire.

I have spent the last fifteen years advising and educating individuals and organisations in the most effective use of free and open source applications, allowing them to work smarter, not harder, without breaking the bank.

For what it's worth I am an experienced and fully qualified Mathematics teacher, have been the e-learning manager of two of the largest FE colleges in the UK, am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have a masters degree in Educational technology.

About this site

Top Online College Student Resource

I started this site in 2007 whilst I was working as an e-learning manager in a large FE college based in South Wales.

I wanted a way of showcasing the best free tools my colleagues could use to enhance teaching and learning and was a response to similar sites, that listed hundreds of tools on one page which I felt was a little overwhelming.

Over the last five years "Paul's E-Learning Resources" grown to become one of the most popular educational technology sites in the UK and was recently voted one of the top online college resources in the world.

My ethos

I am passionate about helping people achieve their educational, business or personal goals by teaching them how to use free and open source tools and technologies.  Whilst I am always happy to use the tools I advocate to create systems and resources for people, I'd much rather educate folks how to use the tools for themselves, 'teach a man to fish' and all that.

I firmly believe in:
  • Using the amazing range of internet based and downloadable free software to empower people and organisations.

  • Providing free useful self-help content for my 'followers' and commercially sound advice to my clients.

  • Delivering professional and high-quality solutions and applying my educational and business insight to enable you to work smarter, not harder.

I hope you find this site helpful, and will save yourself some money by switching to one or more of the free and open source tools featured in the free resources section. The resources section has grown quite large over the years so there may be the odd occasion where you come across a link to a website that's no longer working, if you do come across one, please accept my apologies & let me know - I'll fix it immediately.
